THE BEST PIZZA IN YORK (ACCORDING TO YOU)

Many months ago we posted a poll to see where our readers went to grab a slice of pizza in York.  While many of the favorites such as Marcello's and Jim and Nena's were familiar to us, the eventual winner was not.

Enter Lattuca's Sub Bar.

Being from the Manchester area, we have never done much exploring over on the west end of town so it's easy for us to see how we missed this tucked away restaurant. Though the small dining area was empty when we arrived at 11:30, just after ordering our slices it quickly filled with office workers and students bellying up to the counter.

Lattuca's is the rare restaurant that is family run and has been from the beginning. The gingerly hung family photos tell the story of generations gone by, and how pizza has been a part of each one. Chickie, the friendly owner pictured above, is clearly proud of her shop. She was working the oven herself both times we stopped in, showing careful attention to each pie going in.

After our order arrived, we were met by deliciously salty and hearty slices with a twist of garlic in the sauce. The crust was crisp and crunchy, accented by bits of cornmeal in each bite. It is easy to see why so many of you chose Lattuca's as your favorite pizza around.

We are happy to find more neighborhood joints around the county serving up good pies and slices. We can now confidently add Lattuca's to our list of favorite places across the county. If you have a favorite pizza place, let us know!

I like Jim and Nena's and Lattuca's, and Joe's Pizza Plaza was a regular stop back in the day. But Vito's was my favorite going back to high school and it's still the place my wife and I like to go when we have a hankerin' for pizza.
