Bike Night 2009

This past Friday an estimated 30,000 people descended on York for the 14th Annual York Bike Night.
While Harley offered tours of their plant, most of the hub bub was downtown. Harleys and other bikes alike lined the streets early on Friday in anticipation of the parade.

The real party came later in the night after 2,000 riders rode from the York Fairgrounds down Market Street. The streets were full of bikers going to bars and restaurants.

The White Rose Bar and Grill hosted a party in their rear parking lot which featured live music by The Goondock Saints and The C.C.L. as well as booths from various vendors.

Many of the downtown shops stayed open past normal hours for visitors.
The new Dude's Smoke Shop was among them, which gave many locals a chance to check them out for the first time.

Additionally, many yummy food vendors set up shop in the square.

For the non-biker, perhaps one of the most exciting parts about Bike Night was the bathrooms. That's right. The bathrooms.
York City opened up its 1920's comfort stations which lay under the southeast corner of the square.

The bathrooms are typically closed, but were opened up for this special occasion. Dated details still remain.

One of the best parts are the two red barber chairs that sit in a small dark room off to the side. We couldn't help imagining what it was like back in the day, when you could get a hair cut, a shoe shine, and a bath all in one trip.
