Daytrip report: Ellicott City, MD - Part 2

After a great lunch at Coal Fire, we headed to Historic Ellicott City. Founded in the 1770's, it's a mill town that still remains in the old English style.

The area is dedicated to its history and local businesses, and is not unlike York in that respect. One of the town's main historical attractions is the Thomas Isaac Log Cabin, built circa 1780. They are also home to the world's oldest railroad station.

The streets are lined with treasure after treasure: wine shops, art shops, restaurants, cafes, jewelry shops, tea rooms, a brewery, and antique shops galore. This should be a destination spot for any antique lover.

Walking down the main street was a lovely way to spend the day. The shops seemed to operate as a type of family, and it gave such a cozy feel to the whole area.

We stopped for a break at Bean Hollow, a cute little coffee shop on the main street. We just had an iced coffee and a root beer, but they seemed to have some tasty food to offer.

Ellicott City seemed to share a lot of the values that our little downtown York does too. There was a strong sense of community, history, and art that all came together in one place. It certainly tugged at the heartstrings of us Yorkers.
