30 Soho
This past Friday, a small group of Yorkers took a tour of 30 SoHo, a newly renovated building of condos at 30 South Howard Street.
The building, built in the 1890's, was originally a cigar box factory. Later, it was used by Pfalzgraff. Gerry Michaels, of Community Benefits Real Estate, and Bob Mock of SAA Architects were happy to open the doors to those interested in taking a sneak peek.

The building houses 13 two-floor units, 11 of which are unique in layout. Each apartment had its own feel- there were notable differences between color scheme, kitchens, bathrooms, and staircases. Most of the units will remain empty until buyers and participate in the customization of each unit.
Architect Bob Mock and interior designer Janeen Shober were careful to keep some of the history of the building. They left original wood flooring where possible, and matched it when they couldn't. Below, one of the original deep window sills, and a garage door opening that Shober filled with retro-style block glass.
The use of natural light was a theme throughout the building. Aside from big, bright windows, the designers used frosted glass and other translucent materials to allow light to flow from one room to the next. The photos below show the diversity of some of those materials.
Perhaps the pièce de résistance of the building is it's balconies. Each 4th floor unit has a beautiful place outdoors- with a great view!
