Goodbye Ohio Blenders
Another chapter in the story of the Northwest Triangle in York began today as local officials kicked off the demolition of the Ohio Blenders.
Among the faces and presenters were economic development coordinator Kevin Schreiber, Mayor John Brenner (pictured above) Representative Eugene DePasquale, and city council members Toni Smith and Genevieve Ray (pictured below).

The space, which sits right off of Beaver St., will be a multi-use space: Mayor Brenner hopes to one day see new housing and businesses in the currently under-utilized area.

Dozens of folks from downtown businesses took a break to walk down to the ceremony (presumably to see Mayor Brenner try his hand at operating some heavy machinery), and the media was also well represented.

After one false start of the crawler-track-back-hoe, upon which Mayor Brenner said "Well, this is symbolic," the demolition began.

The crowd, a mixture of giddy and chilly onlookers, cheered as the first piece of metal was torn off the rail car near the blenders. The first visible sign of success in a long awaited project.

We leave you with a photo we took back in September, at that time we weren't aware that the blenders were slated to come down- now we're glad that we were able to capture one of the last moments of this interesting urban structure and York-skyline staple for many years.
